GOVERNMENT HOUSE.

HONGKONG. 4th October, 1921.

Enclosure 1.

6103

I have the honour to inform you that on the 16th of June Archdeacon Barnett a former warden, and the Reverend W. H. Hewitt the present warden, of St. Stephen's College came to see me on the subject of the removal of the College from its present site to a large site on the south side of the Island of Hongkong, which is considered suitable

for their purposes.

2.

I enclose a printed Memorandum, giving the hy it has become a matter of some urgency for the College to seek new quarters. The general change in the habits of Chinese boys during the past ten years has made it necessary for secondary schools that wish to maintain their position to look for sites, which will provide adequate means for recreation. The Diocesan Boys' School if shortly going to more from the very cramped site in Bonham Road, to the area of more than 17 acres in the Kowloon Peninsula approved in Lord Milner's despatch No.61 of the 16th February, 1920, and I hope to submit to you before long proposals for removing Queen's College from its present site in the centre of the city to a much larger site in the

eastern district.
